You may have noticed that I have not been consistent with my blogging for some time now. There’s a few reasons for that. I feel like I am in a third-quarter-moon phase of blogging; that’s the time when the old ways of doing things no longer fit, but the new way of doing things is not yet clear. I have been ruminating for months about changing things up; changing the name of the blog and its design, moving it over to Wordpress, keeping to a regular schedule, brainstorming ideas for posts.
You see, the title “Gaian Tarot Artist’s Journal” no longer fits me or this blog. I originally started it in 2004 to document my process of creating the cards and to get feedback from readers. Along the way, I started blogging about all sorts of different things that I’m interested in. Since the Gaian Tarot cards are now done, the blog needs a new name. But what?
Another thing I have noticed is that most of my community, or tribe, or peeps (whatever name we choose to use) has moved over to Facebook. This happened about two years ago, I think. When I post the same content here on the blog, a link to it on Twitter and a truncated version of it on Facebook, I’m always so surprised at the rush of comments on Facebook, the silence on Twitter, and the very few comments here on the blog. Now I know that part of that is because I post infrequently on Twitter, fairly often on Facebook and less often here on the blog, but still. It seems like the conversation is happening over on FB. Which is fine — I’m very happy with that! — but it leaves me wondering what to do with the blog.
Also, most of my Tarot conversation has moved over to the forum at the Gaian Tarot Circle, the membership site I started in May. We are having juicy online conversations as well as regular teleseminar calls.
I’m kind of talking out loud to myself here, and you all are listening in. (I hope!) :-)
I’ve been looking for one overriding theme that winds its way through all my work. You know all the pieces: Earth-centered spirituality, Tarot, nature, seasons, Goddess lore, mermaid mythology, wheel of the year, eating whole foods and gluten-free, living green, sense of place, creativity, making art, transformation, living your purpose, community, family, spiritual practice . . . All. That. Stuff.
I began to wonder if I needed to narrow my focus and just blog about Creativity. or Tarot. or Living Your Purpose. or Spiritual Practice. or the Seasonal Round. or Becoming Closer to Nature. Or . . .
See my problem?
Yesterday I realized that there isn’t just one predominant theme to my work, but there is a triad of motifs that overlap and enhance each other, like a Celtic triskele. And they are: Creativity ~ Spirituality ~ Nature. (And at the center of this three-legged wheel is: Transformation.) So I am now cogitating on a new shape for the blog that molds itself to those three topics. The Gaian Tarot, of course, fits into all three of them. I plan to write blog posts about these topics but also to create e-courses and workshops around them.
I have two ideas for a new name for the blog, and I’d love to get your feedback. The first one is just to use my name: Joanna Powell Colbert. The second is: Gaian Soul. I’ve already registered both domain names. Just wondering what you think.
And I know I’ve asked this before, but I’ll ask it again: What kind of posts would you like to see in this blog? What kind of workshops and e-courses might you be interested in taking from me?
Many thanks to you and Brightest Blessings!
