After-Storm Musings
(Photo taken from the ferry, after the worst of the storm had passed.)
I feel like I failed some kind of test over the last two days, during the windstorm and power outage. I have myself on such a tight schedule with commitments to clients as well as my own self-imposed deadlines with Tarot art, that I just got myself into a snit over losing power for two days. The first six hours or so was not so bad, but the rest was exasperating. I went to town after the ferry started running again, and spent Monday night there (where we had power but no internet). Then I went home Tuesday morning when I was told the power was restored to the island. By the time I got there, it had gone out again. So I drove back on the ferry, back to town, back to the internet cafe. Wasted so much time and gas going back and forth, chasing power and internet lines. It seems nuts in retrospect.
If — no, make that when — we lose power for more than a few hours again, I think I'd rather hunker down with my long-neglected nature journals (pen and ink! no mouse or screen!) and a few good books and forget about my deadlines and work commitments until power is restored.
Do you think this workaholic Capricorn could manage it?

No need to rush my print Joanna! Take your time and be well.

Hi Joana...
If it helps any...a Sagittarian can't stand the power being out either...makes me feel trapped, and that's not good either...
We went for about ten days without internet after a tornado went through in September...that was insane...
I can't believe how totally hooked we are by electronics and the ether....
Hope you managed to relax a little while there was nothing else to do rather than fussing...knowing my personal Capricorns...I'm going to bet you were fussing!

Greetings Joanna....
Last year our power went out 3 times. The longest was for 8 days after an ice storm that took down many trees. What we found was our "inner power". We moved the couch much closer to the fire, had candles glowing, lot's of blankets, and we read to each other via small flashlights. It was a long 8 days in some respsects, but in that time we were gradually lulled into the cycle of the sun and moon. We paid attention again to the time of day. It was so nice to slow down and to remember we are part of all that is around us. The loss of food and the limbs on our cars and home were much easier to accept when we began to feel we were one with Nature....the true power on Earth. I will say this: I hope Nature is less wild this year!
I am glad things are slowly getting back to normal for you on the island. Have a blessed holiday.

Thank you Lynn, Grace and Claudia. I appreciate your stories. I may get "tested" sooner than we think . . . another cold front is heading in and today, it looks like snow. This time, I vow to appreciate it more.
